BH sent us Prototype giant standup rod on the Excel trip and Shin tested the rod. It is very stiff rod. It might need softened tip. And they don't bend like we like a rod to bend.very few (if any) of the nicer rods on the market are on solid blanks. Glass has traditionally been known to be stronger than graphite or carbon fiber.Smooth the hollow over the solid and the nub knot tightly. Using the 30# braid, tie a nail knot on top of the the hollow spectra, adjacent to the nub, on the reel side. Tighten it TIGHT, until the nail knot turns translucent. I personally think Talica 25II is out of it's league with 400lb class fish in the mix, Talica 50II is probably the next logical choice if you're going with Shimano. Otherwise, the Makaira 20/30 are your best bet. Makaira 20 is same height as 30, but narrower version.The older model Stradic, the FI, it had a higher gear that rerieves 41" per crank.
